Fees
What therapy with me costs, and how payment works.
Cost is a real part of deciding to start therapy, so here it is plainly: what sessions cost, how payment and insurance work, and what happens if you need to cancel.
Session fees:
First consultation
Free
15-Minute Call
50-minute session
$150
Individual therapy
80-minute session
$190
Individual therapy
There’s no HST on psychotherapy sessions, and no intake or administration fees. The amounts above are what you pay.
Most people begin with 50 minutes. The 80-minute session gives us more room when there’s a lot to hold, or when you’d rather not feel the clock near the end. You can move between the two as your needs change.
A free first call
We start with a 15-minute call at no cost. You can ask me anything, tell me a little about what’s bringing you here, and notice how it feels to talk with me. If it isn’t the right fit, that’s completely okay, and I’m glad to suggest other places to look.
What your fee covers
Your fee covers more than the time we spend together. It includes my preparation before each session, secure record keeping, and the regular clinical supervision that supports my work with you.
Payment
Payment is due at the time of each session. You can pay by credit card through Jane, the secure platform I use for booking, or by Interac e-transfer. If you pay by card, it’s kept securely on file in Jane, so there’s nothing to arrange at the end of a session. A receipt is emailed to you each time.
Insurance and benefits
OHIP doesn’t cover sessions with a therapist in private practice. Some extended health plans cover psychotherapy. I don’t bill insurance companies directly, so you pay for the session and then submit your receipt to your insurer to be reimbursed.
Plans differ, so it’s worth a quick call to yours before we start. Two questions are useful: does the plan cover a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) working under clinical supervision, and how much does it cover each year? A few plans also ask for a doctor’s note before they reimburse, so it’s worth asking about that too.
Psychotherapy fees may also count as a medical expense on your income tax return.
Sliding scale
I hold a small number of sliding scale spots for people who want to do this work and find the full fee out of reach. If that’s you, mention it on the consultation call, through my contact page, or by email at irina@innerfieldpsychotherapy.ca. You don’t need to explain or justify your situation.
Cancelling or rescheduling
If you need to cancel or move a session, please let me know at least 24 hours ahead and there’s no charge. Sessions missed or cancelled with less notice are charged the full fee, because that time was set aside for you.
Common Questions:
How often would we meet?
Most people start weekly or every two weeks. We choose a rhythm that fits your life and your budget, and we can change it as we go.
How long does therapy last?
There’s no fixed number of sessions. We check in regularly about how it’s going, and you decide how long to continue.
Do I need to be in Ontario?
Yes. I’m registered in Ontario, so you need to be physically in the province at the time of each session.
If you have a question about fees that isn’t answered here, you can reach me through my contact page or by email at irina@innerfieldpsychotherapy.ca. Otherwise, the consultation call is the place to start, and you can book it online in a couple of minutes.
